Our Stained Glass Windows…

This is a history of how Luther Memorial was blessed with the beautiful stained glass windows on the west wall of the sanctuary.

It started as…

As a vision of a memorial fund established in 1995 in the name of Jodi Fischer.

Estimates for the stained glass windows were solicited.

It was estimated…

on June 15th 1996; that each of the six stained glass window would cost $6,200 ($1,200 for the thermo break frame + $5,000 for the window themselves) for a total cost of $37,000. This estimate, drawn up by Great Northern Stained Glass of Green Bay WI, was accepted and approved on June 16th 1996.

Great Northern Stained Glass is a father/son business specializing in the restoration of existing church windows and the design / creation of new church windows.

Richard Millard was selected to be the artist for these windows. Mr. Millard has a solid reputation in the United States as a glass artist who creates beautiful church windows. He has an exceptional talent for hand painting and coloring of glass, thus bringing the faces of his windows to life.

The glass to be used in these windows will be hand blown glass sourced from Germany.

the project moves forward…

On September 30th 1996, the designs for all six windows were finalized with the artist. Luther Memorial received colored slides of each window. The window frames and glass were purchased at that time. Care was taken to purchase all the glass at the same time to ensure proper color matches between pieces.

By the time Christmas arrives in 1996, three of the six windows have been completed and installed.

The remaining three stained glass windows were installed during the spring of 1998, in time for Luther Memorial’s 50th anniversary.

Praise the Lord for these beautiful windows telling the story of our Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ!
